Steps to Solve Multiplication of Fractions

To solve fraction multiplication, follow these steps:

  1. Write down the two fractions you want to multiply. For example, let’s say we want to multiply 3/4 and 2/5.

  2. Multiply the numerators (the top numbers) together. In this case, 3 * 2 = 6.

  3. Multiply the denominators (the bottom numbers) together. In this case, 4 * 5 = 20.

  4. Write down the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators. In this case, the product is 6/20.

  5. Simplify the fraction, if possible. In this case, both 6 and 20 can be divided by 2, resulting in 3/10.

  6. So, the product of 3/4 and 2/5 is 3/10.

Fraction Multiplying Worked Examples

Example 1.

  • 2/3 * 4/5

  • = (2 * 4) / (3 * 5)

  • = 8/15

Example 2.

  • 1/2 * 3/4

  • = (1 * 3) / (2 * 4)

  • = 3/8

Example 3.

  • 5/6 * 2/7

  • = (5 * 2) / (6 * 7)

  • = 10/42

  • = 5/21
